Aunt Martha’s President & CEO Raul Garza was a guest speaker as part of an all-day session of the Leadership Greater Chicago (LGC) Signature Fellows Program, Class of 2020 entitled “Healthcare: Equity and Care First Friday” on Friday, February 7, 2020. Garza presented as part of a panel regarding Special Topics in Community and Social Health Determinants and focused his presentation on the enormously positive impact of value-based, integrated care within child welfare settings, which has been proven to improve youth outcomes while lowering the cost of care. The panel also included Stephanie Altman, Director of Health Care Justice at the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, and Andy Van Wieren, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Esperanza Health Centers. Other topics covered during the all-day session included Current State of the U.S. Healthcare System, Trauma Care on Chicago’s South Side, and Applications of Human Centered Design. According to a message on its website from Maria Wynne, Leadership Greater Chicago’s Chief Executive Officer, Leadership Greater Chicago brings together “high performing individuals of diverse backgrounds from the private, nonprofit, and public sectors to tackle the area’s most pressing issues” and has “developed more than 1,200 of the region’s most promising leaders through its Signature Fellows Program” since 1983.
